Hello all… and Welcome to my new blog. What is this blog about? This blog is about the adventure i am going to be going through breeding two wonderful rats for a particular result and i want to make a journal/blog about the whole adventure and process, and the day to day ongoings and share it with the world, well not the world but with my many rat friends around the world. The blog will have pictures and details. Day to day you will be reading about this whole adventure. So basicly it is a blog about breeding two of my wonderful rats- Alexi and Priscilla. From mating, pregnancy and delivery and it will continue on as the babies grow.
Why are these two rats so special and spectacular for breeding well I’ve always wanted some Dumbo DOUBLE Rexes. If you don’t know what a Double Rex is.. well, it is a rat who’s both parents are Rexes (Curly haired rat) and the result can be Double Rexes; this usually means they the babies will have very litttle hair or even almost 100% bald or have patches of hair and/or patches of baldness. Through out their life their hair can come in and fall out. I’ve always loved that look and wanted to produce my own.
Now if you don’t know what a Dumbo is, well think of ‘Dumbo’ the cartoon. Dumbo is a rat who’s ears are very low. The low ears give them a very very cute face. So essentially i want my babies two have both of these things- ‘Dumbo’ and ‘Double’ rex. The markings aren’t so impotant, all i want is to produce Dumbo Double rex’s. Although I’d prefer not to many Black hoodes and Black berks for I’ve had so many over the years but i know the fact of the matter is that i will probably get a larger percentage of Black hoodes and Black Berks But you never know there could always be a suprise in the mix. They do carry the ‘Blue’ gene so to have one or two of those would be a dream come true.
Alexi is a Black Hooded Dumbo Rex and Priscilla is a Black Berkshire Dumbo Rex. And the result of the babies should mostly be Dumbo’s and Double Rexes.
I will be adding pics of Alexi and Priscilla today or tomorrow so that you may see what they look like. This journal will have entries everyday and possibly more than one a day.
I hope you will go on this adventure with me and feel free to comment, or give advice, offer experiences. I have bred before, accidently and purposely so i am no beginner to this.
So, today at 6:45 i put Alexi and Priscilla into a nursery cage. Alexi when straight to Prisilla and started sniffing her behind which is normal but he soon lost interest which tells me she isn’t in heat. She should be going into heat in a few days if not sooner. Sometimes a girl who is not in heat can be put into heat when having a male around.
I just looked into their cage and they are sitting next to one and other which is a good sign. Prsiscilla isn’t intimidated by Alexi which can often be a problem when introducing a new pair but so far so good.
Well, i will close my first entry now. Please stay tuned for pictures and even videos. I hope you all will enjoy this blog as much as i am enjoying creating it and working on it.
